The Doctor
Dr.
Darryl Mathewson is originally from Bluffton, Ohio, where he graduated
from high school in 1979. He then attended The Ohio State University
for his undergraduate studies. He earned his Doctor of Optometry
degree in 1986 after graduating from The Ohio State University College
of Optometry. In December of 1986, Dr. Mathewson purchased the optometry
practices of Woodrow (Lee) McCartney and Steve Franz in Defiance,
Ohio, and began his practice at his current location on Fourth Street.
In 1998, he reconstructed his office building into a new modern
facility.
Dr. Mathewson believes that one of his greatest
attributes to his patients comes from the fact that he grew up in
a small town. There he experienced the importance of personalized
care, where each person is treated as an individual. Therefore, he
strives to be compassionate and understanding with every patient.
He also enjoys educating them about their vision and invites them
to ask questions so that they can have a better knowledge of their
vision. Dr. Mathewson is a member of several
professional organizations, including the American Optometric Association,
the Ohio Optometric Association and the Contact Lens Section of The
American Optometric Association. He is also a member of the Alumni
Associations of The Ohio State University, The Ohio State University
College of Optometry and the Epsilon Psi Epsilon Professional Fraternity.
Dr. Mathewson resides in Defiance
with his wife, Brenda, and their two daughters, Alexis, age 13,
and Paige, age 9. Dr. Mathewson is an active member of St. Mary's
Catholic Church, the Defiance Sertoma Club and the Defiance Chamber
of Commerce. He strongly supports the area community and schools
through various avenues. Dr. Mathewson enjoys spending time with
his family and attending the many school and community activities
that his daughters are involved in.
