Dr. Darryl Mathewson established his optometric practice in 1986 after purchasing the practices of Dr. Woodrow (Lee) McCartney and Dr. Steve Franz. The doctor and the staff are committed to making sure that every patient is satisfied with the service and eyewear that they receive. Patients are welcome to call or stop by the office, at any time, with any concerns or questions that they may have. The success of Dr. Mathewson's practice is through treating every patient as an individual and spending time with them to make sure that they are knowledgeable about their vision and eyewear options.

Dr. Mathewson's office is conveniently located in downtown Defiance at 417 Fourth Street. There is plenty of parking and a wheelchair accessible ramp. The office is open Monday through Friday, and evening and Saturday appointments are also available. The doctor will see patients at other times for emergencies and special circumstances.

Our office has a large, beautiful dispensary with a comfortable atmosphere for patients to leisurely browse and try on frames. There is a large waiting room with plenty of literature and a small children's play area.

Our office offers a wide variety of products and services. Among the services we provide include comprehensive eye exams, emergency visits, treatment of specific eye diseases, co-management of refractive and cataract surgeries, adjustment and minor repairs to spectacle frames.

One of the many products we provide are the numerous styles of frames, including designer and trendy. We offer all types of spectacle eyewear, such as no-line bifocals, regular bifocals, reading glasses, computer glasses, sports and safety glasses, sunglasses, children's glasses and more. Dr. Mathewson fits both soft and rigid gas permeable contact lenses. Examples of these are conventional, disposable, planned replacement, toric (astigmatism), bifocal, monovision, colored and costume contact lenses. All products have a warranty, so patients can feel comfortable with their choice of eyewear.

Our office accepts payment in cash, checks and credit cards. We also offer financing with no intrest for up to one full year. We accept many insurance plans including Vision Service Plan, Medicare and Medicaid.
